Adolescents that participate in Catherine Freer's wilderness therapy programs are ages 13 to 18 and are good kids that have gotten off track and need guidance and structure to help them make better choices. Although their manifestations can be different, most often the underlying issues are quite similar:
- Beyond parental control
- Experiencing low self-esteem
- Rebellious, angry, defiant
- Choosing the wrong friends
- Suffering from attention deficit
- Bright but not achieving
- Recovering from sexual abuse
- Struggling with attachment disorders
- Impulsive or hyperactive
- Poor academic achievement
- Suspended or expelled from school
- Depressed or emotionally troubled
- Abusing alcohol or drugs
